The Mental Health Counselor is a member of the nursing staff who works collaboratively to ensure a safe, therapeutic treatment environment. Knowledge and understanding of psychiatric conditions is essential to the effective functioning of the Mental Health Counselor in the psychiatric setting. The MHC collaborates/cooperates with nursing staff and other health care personnel to promote treatment and recovery of patients. The MHC contributes to the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of patient care within the scope of hospital policies, procedures and standards. She is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association, Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, and Massachusetts Medical Society.The Mental Health Counselor provides care to patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Booma is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is licensed to practice medicine by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Booma completed a research year in the pharmacology and genetics research program at Duke University Medical School's Department of Surgery, and was a Lead Teacher at the Emory Autism Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University's School of Medicine. from the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. ![]() Booma completed residency in the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) / McLean Hospital combined general pediatrics and adult psychiatry program, followed by subspecialty fellowship at MGH / McLean in child and adolescent psychiatry. She is Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Additionally, she is the director of The Resilience Project at NWH, an innovative community and school based initiative to improve mental health of children, teens, and families. Booma is the Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatryand Director of the Child Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. ![]()
